In an attempt to break the stalemate between the center and protesting farmers in Punjab, 28 out of 29 Farmers and ranchers associations challenging the recently passed Farm laws have sent their agents to Delhi on Wednesday to go to a meeting on the invitation of the Union Agriculture Secretary for a talk.
Bharati Kisan Union, also known as Ugrahan, a key farmers’ organization from Malwa had reported its choice to go to the gathering on Monday. The other 27 farmers’ organizations met in Chandigarh on Tuesday and chose to send a 7-member delegation group with a list of their demands.
Considering all things together, 10 farmers’ leaders from Punjab have gone for the Delhi meeting. The 29th farmers’ organization which is important for the fights in Punjab, Kisan Mazdoor Sangrash Committee, had declared on Monday that it will not be going to the gathering.
The farmers through their leaders concluded that they would proceed to meet Union Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal on Wednesday. BKU President Balbir Singh Rajewal stated that they are giving everything recorded as a hard copy to the Agriculture Secretary. The discussions will occur only if the Union leaders meet them.
In their charter of requests being submitted to Agarwal, the farmer chiefs will request rejecting each one of the three Farm laws (including the amended EC Act) other than requesting the usage of the MS Swaminathan Commission report.
To press the points of the farmers further ahead, BKU President Balbir Singh Rajewal additionally mentioned about the support of the farmers’ organizations for a chakka jam by farmers across India in November. The farmers’ leaders further told that they would accept an approach for another proposed protest in the form of a rail roko in a gathering on October 15, planned for Chandigarh.
