Two of the Yuva morcha leaders of BJP unit in West Bengal, Pamela Goswami, and Probir Dey have been arrested by the police over the possession of banned substances. Both of them were arrested in the New Alipore in Kokata for the possession of 100 grams of Cocaine. She was arrested from inside her car on Friday for carrying cocaine. A security personal was also present in Pamela Goswami’s car. Her friend Probir Kumar Dey was also arrested from NR Avenue in New Alipore area of Kolkata.

Sources stated that Pamela Goswami would often stop at a particular spot. The police had observed her movements and had prior information that she was carrying cocaine in her car.

On stopping her car, the cops searched her bag and found narcotics in her bag and car seat.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the New Alipore police station made the arrests when she was parking the car, an officer said.

“She was involved in drug trafficking for quite some time. Today, we got information that she along with her supplier Prabir was reaching the spot to hand over the drugs to the purchasers,” the officer said.

A team of policemen in eight vehicles surrounded Goswami’s car and made the arrests, the officer further added.

“An investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to find out whether she is involved in any drug racket,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the BJP is tight-lipped over Pamela Goswami’s arrest.

Pamela Goswami and her friend Dey were taken to Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar from New Alipore Police station for further interrogation by the police.

Reports stated that the police had suspected that Pamela was involved in the purchase of narcotics and had been observing her movements for some time.

The development came just months before the State Assembly Elections in West Bengal wherein the BJP is aiming to dethrone Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

Sources stated that before entering politics, Pamela Goswami was an airhostess and had also acted in some Bengali television serials.
