After a day of discussions, the CBSE Board Class XII examinations have been cancelled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that anxiety among students, parents, and teachers must end.

The decision came at the end of a key meeting held today on the matter. This meeting was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman Manoj Ahuja, besides other officials.

CBSE will now take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner, according to the PMO.

A CBSE release said, “It is decided that any student who is not satisfied with the assessment, an option to appear in the examination would be provided by CBSE as and when the situation becomes conducive.”

Apart from that, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Tuesday cancelled the Class 12th ISC exams. In the wake of the pandemic, a large section of students and parents have been demanding cancellation of the exams. The board had postponed class 12 exams which were scheduled from May 4. The decision came due to the aggressive second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy Chief Minister and Education minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia said that the decision is in favour of students and teachers.

On the cancellation of the examinations, he said, “We welcome the decision. This decision is in favour of students and teachers. Earlier we have demanded the same. Students should be calculated on their earlier performances.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “After consultation with ministers, states & students, PM Modi today announced to cancel Class XII CBSE Board Exams with a view to safeguarding the health & future of the youth. It’s a good decision and a huge step for the new generation.”
