Protect your kid’s identity

Keep reminding your kids not to give their personal information, such as name, home address, telephone number to anyone they don’t know through email, Twitter, Facebook, or in online chat rooms or bulletin boards.

Talk to your children about the online risks of interacting with strangers through computer and sending notes and pictures into cyberspace.

Make sure websites are secure

You can instantly tell if any website is safe by looking for one letter: “s.” Every website address starts with the letters “http,” but you know a site is secure when you see “https.” That means the website itself is taking measures to keep users and their information secure while they use the site.

Prevent cyber bullying

Cyber bullying using electronic technology can happen anytime and anywhere. Teach your kids to think through what they post on the Internet about other people and consequences of their posts if they are unkind or obscene in nature. Also, keep communication with your kids open and encourage them to speak up if you suspect someone is bullying them.

 Monitor online activity

Monitoring your kids’ online activity can help keep them safe. Explore various parental control and consider what options may work best for you and your family.
