Election Commission on Monday announced that elections for 18 Rajya Sabha seats will be held on 19 June.

The election was supposed to be held in March, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent nationwide lockdown. Now as lockdown has been eased, the election commission has announced the election date.

The list includes 4 seats each from Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, three seats from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively, two from Jharkhand and one each from Meghalaya and Manipur.

The voting will begin at 9 am on June 19.

According to the Election Commission, the Chief Secretaries are asked to depute a senior officer from the State to ensure that the existing guidelines for covid-19 containment are to be followed while making arrangements for conducting the elections.

The election commission on February 25 announced elections to 55 seats from 17 States to fill the vacancies caused by those retiring in April. Candidates on 37 seats out of these 55 have already been elected unopposed.
