With Delhi becoming the worst-hit city with Coronavirus in India, CM Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the situation is “a cause for concern but not for panic.”
“The number of 74,000 coronavirus cases is a lot, but if we try and understand the situation, I will say the situation is under control. It is a cause for concern but not for panic,” Kejriwal said during a digital briefing.
“We have increased testing by three times compared to earlier; so it is obvious that the number of positive cases will also increase. The good thing is that as many as 45,000 have recovered; people are getting cured very quickly too,” he said.
“In early June, there was some shortage of hospital beds in Delhi but not any more. Over the coming days, we will attach banquet halls to hospitals in different parts of Delhi. We are preparing for the future,” he also said.
Meanwhile, Assam will witness a “total lockdown” in Guwahati from Monday for the next two weeks after a sharp surge in new coronavirus patients was recorded in the last ten days.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this afternoon as he stressed: “Please finish your shopping by Sunday. A total lockdown will be observed in Kamrup (Metro) district for two weeks from Sunday midnight. For the first seven days, only pharmacies and hospitals will be open. Everything else will be shut.”
In another development, showering praise on Yogi Adityanath for his handling of COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the vast preparations made by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister saved at least 85,000 lives, something that was unthinkable before 2017.
Launching the “Atma nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Abhiyan”, Modi said, “UP’s achievement is massive… The population of 24 crore is bigger than that of many countries. The population of England, France, Italy and Spain put together comes to 24 crore but they saw 1.30 lakh deaths due to coronavirus.”
