The fifth phase of the voting ended today, putting an end to the assembly polls in the state. Hence, the exit polls were conducted and the results turned out to be another jolt to the BJP.

Various exit polls have predicted the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance to form the government in the state.

In all the polls, Babulal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) has emerged as the main gainer along with Sudesh -led All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU).

Out of the 81 assembly seats, elections had concluded in 65 constituencies in the previous four phases between 30 November and 16 December. The final counting will be done on 23rdDecember to decide the fate of the candidates.

The JMM fought in 43 seats while its alliance partners Congress and the RJD fought in 31 and seven seats, respectively.

Former deputy chief minister and sitting JMM MLA Stephen Marandi is seeking re-election from Maheshpur and JD(U)’s Jharkhand unit chief and ex-MP salkhanMurmu is contesting the polls from Sikaripara.

It is predicted that the BJP will find it difficult to form the government. The BJP claimed that it would get “Abkibaar 65 paar” in the ongoing Jharkhand Assembly election. The party is seeking to return to power under the incumbent Chief Minister Raghubar Das.Das has also expressed confidence of returning to power in Jharkhand because of the work done by his government.

Hemant Soren is the chief ministerial candidate of Congress, JMM and RJD alliance. He is contesting the polls from Dumka and Barhet seats.

In the 2014 Jharkhand assembly election BJP won 37 seats, while the Congress won 6 seats. The remaining 38 seats were won by state parties.
