In a ceremony to celebrate the thirty third foundation day, TRIFED reasserted its goal and commitments to improve and transform the lives of the tribal population in India. TRIFED is a body under the Ministry of tribal affairs established in 1987 by the then Ministry of Welfare, Government of India. It was registered under Multi state cooperative societies act 1984 and operates as a nodal agency under the ministry of tribal affairs. One of the crucial steps taken by the TRIFED is the establishment of a virtual office on its foundation day, i.e. 6th August, this year. The virtual office has a network of 81 workstations and 100 more converging state and agency workstations. This would help the workers under the TRIFED to carry out their work along with their partner agencies. Some important architectural setups put forth by TRIFED in this regard are the employee engagement and work distribution matrix with dashboard links and a corresponding software to coordinate the work across states.

All of the efforts of the TRIFED are directed to bring the tribal people closer to the developments in the mainstream world. Some other recent important steps taken by the TRIFED include a digitization drive to identify and map tribal producers linking them to the national and international markets. These steps are important since there have been huge discussions regarding the extent of the implementation of the Forests Rights Act 2006, and the output from the minor forest produces. The MFPs have a value in the trade which adds up to around 2 lakh crores INR as per a NITI study group report. The digitization drive was also complemented by setting up of an e market place for the tribal artisans to market their produce, updating and digitization of data of the forests dwellers who are involved in the VanDhan Yojana. TRIFED had also begun the digitization of the procurement process of the Minor Forest products through private as well as government trade. The recent steps taken by the TRIFED come in a time of a world-shaking pandemic scenario. This agency has around 500 employees spread across the head office and 15 offices across India, which can be of great use for Trifed in implementing its objectives.
