Recently Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the Chabahar Day conference, which was held in Mumbai. This is also to be noted that Chabahar Port is linking INSTC to enhance central Asia reaches. India will tie up with Iran for this port located in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman. It is considered Iran’s only oceanic port which covers two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti. If it comes to that each of these ports has five berths.

Chabahar Port is considered a key pillar of India’s Indo-Pacific vision which connects Eurasia with the Indian Ocean Region. India’s Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has tied up with Iran to invest money in this port which would be quite beneficial for the country.

It is being ascertained that this port will also be a part of the international North-South Transport Corridor network connecting India. Now let’s come to know the previous agreement of India.

Such reports have revealed that in May 2016, the trilateral transit agreement which is signed by Iran, India and Afghanistan apparently allows Indian goods to reach Afghanistan Through Iran. Moreover, by the year 2017, India’s first shipment of wheat to Afghanistan was sent through the Chabahar Port.
